There is something appealing in going back to smaller community interest groups where politics doesn't seep into everything, though. Those have always existed in other forms (forums, subreddits, etc.) but none so open and active as Twitter has been.

The network effects are hard to overcome, and no one wants to be switching back and forth between multiple systems to see if they missed anything.
